The Whole Story
Dianna has been teaching in the Raleigh area since 2010 bringing kinesthetically sound movement and emotionally charged messages to the yoga and dance studio.
Dianna is originally from Fairfield, Connecticut and graduated from N.C. State with a B.A. in Arts Studies and a minor in English. Dianna began her ballet training at Connecticut Dance School but became inspired by modern styles in college. While pursuing her degree, she became a yoga instructor and a founding member of multi-cultural and modern dance company, Panoramic Dance Project under the direction of Tara Mullins and Program Director Robin Harris. Dianna has had the opportunity to perform in The Black Nativity by Langston Hughes under the choreographic direction of Dr. Charles “Chuck” Davis. In addition, she has had the honor of working with choreographers like Willie Hinton, Autumn Mist Belk, and Rhea Patterson.
Dianna began her yoga teaching journey in in 2010 as Fitness and Yoga Instructor within N.C. State Recreation. Shortly after college, she became a dance instructor with a particular passion for ballet and modern. She has experience teaching ballet, modern, lyrical, jazz, and hip hop.
In 2016, she completed the 180 Power Yoga teacher training at 110 Yoga and earned her 200 RYT. The intensive study allowed Dianna to explore the mind body dialogue in a space that was entirely unique but not dissimilar to joy that dance previously brought her.
Dianna’s career marriage of dance and yoga provides a layered approach to how she value movement. Choreographer Martha Graham once said that the body is a sacred garment, a dance quote that only exploded with significance after Dianna began teaching both yoga and dance. The dialogue that we must foster between our mind and body is filled with discovery, love, expression, and ultimately self-awareness. She believes that this awareness is born from the ability to cultivate a beginner mindset in all that one does. Just as a child plays and explores their physical world, everyone has the ability to move and be available to new joys discovered through movement.
Dianna founded Motionally Available in March of 2020. This growing business includes projects that bring emotional value to movement through continuous cultivation of the beginner mindset. This concept is the driving factor of Dianna’s teaching in every studio she steps into.
Dianna continues to grow in yoga and dance education. Above all, she values alignment-based instruction for all levels. In addition to being a 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher, she has completed Ailey Extension’s week long Beginner Horton Teacher Workshop, and is certified in Progressing Ballet Technique.
